External surveillance or perimeter protection systems are used in all places that have high security requirements. They prevent break-in and break-out attempts, hold-ups, spying, sabotage and vandalism, and unauthorized access to an area.

A perpetrator should not be able to even get as far as the building, but should already be identified and trigger an alarm when crossing the property boundary.
